Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
